San Fernando City, La Union – March 17, 2025 – The boxing community of La Union was treated to a thrilling night of action-packed bouts at the San Fernando City Fiesta Boxing Event, presented by Hardstone Monis Promotions, Kombat Sports Kalayaan, and Lumaban Boxing. The event, held at the San Fernando City Plaza, showcased a stacked fight card featuring ten amateur and four professional bouts, culminating in an intense main event between Jufel Salina of Hardstone Boxing Stable (Super Bantamweight) and Dennis Ireno of El Tigre Boxing Gym (Super Bantamweight).
Amateur Boxing. The evening kicked off with ten amateur bouts, where young prospects from various gyms displayed their skills and determination. The amateur matches were fiercely contested, highlighting the depth of talent emerging from La Union and beyond. Spectators cheered as these future stars of the ring left everything inside the squared circle, showcasing their technical prowess, grit, and fighting spirit.
Among them, the fighters representing Team Lumaban delivered standout performances. R1AA SFC Representative Ehrl Joven Ochoco, 17, faced a tough challenge against a fighter from Vigan who was ten years his senior. Ochoco was given an eight-count early in the first round but staged a remarkable comeback, securing a victory by Referee Stop Contest after a relentless 12-15 punch flurry.
Lumaban's newest addition, JoeferFermin, engaged in a competitive match that ended in controversy. Many in attendance believed he had done enough to win, but the judges edged the scorecards against him in the end. Another Lumaban standout, Javy Ladia, one of the original Subano Boyz, went to war in a thrilling bout. Despite ultimately losing on the cards, his all-out aggression had the crowd on its feet.
Team Lumaban's captain, Joryl Rañola, 18, showcased resilience in his bout against Blow by Blow amateur standout Archie Aguimba of Vigan City. After a stiff first round, Rañola adjusted well, landing jabs and straights in the second. While his defence was porous at times, he dug deep in the third round, doing enough to convince the judges to award him the decision.
Next up was another of the Subano Boyz, JR Amis, who, in typical fashion, overwhelmed his opponent with a barrage of hooks and uppercuts, securing an emphatic victory.
The amateur main event featured a showdown between Team Lumaban's OG Subano warrior and 2023 PNG National Champion against elite amateur Raymond Banquiao of Hardstone Boxing Stable in Bangar. The fight was action-packed, with Ladia pressing forward, walking Banquiao down from rope to rope. However, Banquiao’s ability to land sharp counters on the inside impressed the judges, who awarded him a razor-thin split decision victory.
Professional Bouts. Following the amateur showdowns, four professional bouts added to the excitement, featuring promising contenders and established warriors looking to climb the ranks. The atmosphere inside the venue was electric as fans eagerly anticipated each bout, with fighters delivering action-packed performances that kept everyone on the edge of their seats.
The Co-Main Event: Patrocenio vs. Condes. In the co-main event, Rengie Patrocenio of Kombat Sports Kalayaan (KSK) Boxing Stable in Makati (Featherweight) faced off against Remar Condes of L.C. Boxing Stable from Mindoro Province (Featherweight). Both fighters entered the ring with determination, aiming to make a statement. Patrocenio, who entered the bout with a record of 15 wins (10 by knockout) and 3 losses, showcased his agility and sharp combinations, while Condes, boasting 12 wins (7 by knockout), 5 losses, and 1 draw, countered with power punches and relentless pressure. The bout was a thrilling display of contrasting styles, keeping the audience engaged throughout.
Patrocenio, once known as an overly aggressive power puncher in the amateurs, showed a whole new fighter on this night, displaying rhythm, volume, timing, and intelligent pressure. His evolution as a boxer was evident, impressing fans and analysts alike. We hope this newfound maturity takes him high up the ranks as he continues his professional journey.
After an intense battle, Patrocenio emerged victorious via split decision, improving his record to 16-3, while Condes now holds a 12-6-1 mark.
The Main Event: Salina vs. Ireno. The highly anticipated main event pitted Hardstone Boxing Stable’s Jufel Salina of Bangar, La Union against the tough and seasoned Dennis Ireno of El Tigre Boxing Gym, Mandaluyong City. From the opening bell, both fighters wasted no time engaging in a high-paced battle, exchanging heavy blows and testing each other’s resilience. Salina, backed by fans and supporters, showcased superior ring generalship and crisp counterpunching, while Ireno fought off his backfoot, to manage the pace and pressure of Salina.
As the rounds progressed, Salina, who entered the fight with a record of 12 wins (8 by knockout), 2 losses, and 1 draw, began to find his rhythm, landing sharp combinations ont the inside. Despite Ireno’s valiant effort, coming in with a 10-4-2 record, Salina’s technical mastery and calculated offence earned him the edge on the judges’ scorecards. After an exhilarating battle, Salinas secured a unanimous decision victory, pushing his record to 13-2-1, while Ireno moves to 10-5-2.
